Allen is a career investment banker having spent most of his years serving middle market companies throughout the Southeast. He actually began his career as an examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and was later with Tri-South Mortgage Investors and Kidder Peabody & Co. In 1978, Allen moved to Charlotte where he co-founded both Robison, McAulay& Rogers, a boutique investment bank, and Uvest Financial Services, a third-party provider of discount brokerage services for community banks. In 1985, he joined Interstate/Johnson Lane Corporation where he became head of investment banking and a member of the board of directors. Later he was recruited as a Managing Director of KPMG's investment banking practice and, most recently, was a Principal and co-owner of Allen C. Ewing & Co.
Allen serves on the board of directors of Insteel Industries, Inc., Mount Airy, NC and is an organizer and founding director of Forest Commercial Bank, Asheville, NC.
Allen is a graduate of Davidson College (AB – Economics) and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (MBA). He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army with tours of duty in the United States and the Republic of Vietnam.
